Day 3 - Klamath Falls, OR to Yakima, WA

Day three found us up and at it early at our Klamath Falls hotel mixing hot water with dried oatmeal in a vain attempt to make an included free continental breakfast palatable. We’re probably not going to miss our Klamath Falls experience.
Just an hour out of Klamath Falls is one of the most scenic experiences in the West, Crater Lake National Park. As we approached the lake, the temperature dropped and the ground was covered with the remains of the last winter snow. Arriving at the visitor center and walking to the edge of the crater, one is presented with a spectacular view of the lake, several hundred feet below the rim of the crater. One can only imagine the explosive force that created the lake.
The weather for riding was perfect and we enjoyed our ride to Bend, OR where we had lunch at the "Old Mill" shopping center along the scenic Deschutes River. We also stopped at the Harley-Davidson dealer, which has pretty much become our custom while on the road.
Our evening accommodations plans fell slightly short of Yakima, landing us in Toppenish, WA, a quaint old western town known for its historic murals. However, it was most fortuitous for there was a nasty looking black thunderstorm cloud along the route to Yakima. We opted instead for an excellent Mexican diner followed by a most welcomed dip in the hotel Jacuzzi following our ritual evening bike cleaning.
We ended our day with another 350 miles under our collective belts. Tomorrow we enter Canada, Eh?
