Greetings faithful followers.
Today was a pretty uneventful day on the road, which is not necessarily a bad thing, considering all of the traffic two and from Sturgis, SD and all of the highway maintenance which can only be done here in the north country during the summer months.
We departed Wall, SD about 7:30 AM riding east on Interstate 90 headed toward Worthington, MN. The temperature was in the mid-nineties with enough humidity to maintain a constant stream of sweat down one's back for the duration of the day. Two highlights of the day were crossing the mighty Missouri River and a stop in Mitchell, SD to visit the world famous Corn Palace, originally constructed in 1892 as a meeting place and auditorium. Please see photos above depicting today and 1892. It is unique in the fact that exterior has been decorated in artwork with corn and corn husks every year since, with the exception of during WWII when corn food sources were required for the war effort. Today the Corn Palace is used for theatrical performances, community meetings and basketball games. Inside we met and had our picture taken with "Corney," the Corn Palace mascot. Jack wanted to know if she was Corn Star!
Upon arriving in Worthington, SD and checking into our hotel, we walked to the adjacent laundromat with out dirty clothes looking line six Six Santa Clauses with a bags over our shoulders walking across the parking lot to the laundromat. Five of us opted for the $2.50 self-serve wash. Big spender Steve on the other hand opted to have the staff there launder and fold his clothes for $20. Then, he proceed to tell them how to load the wash and fold his clothes and supervised the operation. We then adjourned to the nearby"Ground Round" restaurant and bar to await the wash cycle, at which time Lane quipped "Heck Steve, for $20 I'd have washed your laundry. John almost choked on his Margarita as the group burst unto laughter!
Laundry done, we retired to the spa and swimming pool for a well-deserved cool off break before dinner. After showering we once again returned to the "Ground Round" to finish off our day with a nice meal. Ms. Ashley, our cocktail waitress and food server was most friendly and accommodating. Thank you Ashley. I just wish Steve hadn't asked her how she got pregnant. Steve, it starts with a man and a woman and, oh never mind. . . .
