Day Two Cedar City, UT to Rawlins, WY - 520 Miles

No alarm clock required this morning, Mother Nature provided a symphony of thunder claps with overcast skies and light rain. Don the rain suits and ride. We managed to ride directly under a thunderstorm for the first two hours of the day as it rumbled northbound along our route of travel. Eventually, skies cleared and we were blessed with beautiful blue skies and billowing white clouds to Provo, UT. Turning eastbound and departing I-15 at Provo we traversed a scenic canyon along Highway 189 and followed a meandering river to Heber, UT near Park City where we had what the locals call a taco (disguised as a burrito) for lunch. Must not be enough Mexicans in Utah.

Before departing I-15 and shedding rain suits, your humble scribe realized that Cedar City, 80 miles to the south. A phone call later and the jacket is heading home via parcel post thanks to Brandy, the desk clerk. Thanks Brandy. And, John is going jacket shopping in Sturgis for his eighth motorcycle jacket, that under normal circumstances, he would not need. Oh the joys of travling, or is it just another case of modern maturity having its way with an unsuspecting soul?

The remainder of the ride to Rawlins, WY, our destination for the evening, was relatively uneventful, absent a motorhome blowing out a tire right next to John as he passed. Talk about getting your attention. Wow! Otherwise, it was just running in and out of light thunder showers the remainder of the day. Temperatures ranged from just below 50 degrees in the morning rain to mid eighties the remainder of the day, really very nice.

We checked into the Rawlins Best Western and finished our evening at the Aspen House Restaurant, an quaint old converted home, where we enjoyed outstanding rib eye steak dinners and a couple of adult beverages--an excellent conclusion to a most enjoyable day.

Tomorrow, we'll be in South Dakota, Keystone, Mount Rushmore and Custer State Park, then Sturgis and the world famous Wall Drug on Tuesday.

Stay tuned.

Hi Dad,

So you mention Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park and Sturgis and I find myself frantically in search of my ruby red slippers. There must be a quicker mode of transportation as I so desperately wish to join you on this trek of the excursion! I hope all is well and keep up the posting as it's imperative I live vicariously through you right now.

Love you.....VLV

ps: Hope you were able to find a motorcycle jacket in your Sturgis travels. CRS is can be costly. XXXOOO
